Despite warnings of full hospitals and ICUs in the region, and with cases still at all-time highs, SASD has decided to "recommend" and not require masks in schools. They claim in an email to parents that they are following updated requirements from CHOP Policy Lab and Montgomery County Office of Public Health (MCOPH). The CHOP Policy Lab guidance for all other aspects of pandemic handling (quarantine, isolation, contact tracing) is based on universal masking.
